Chapter 10
10
“Housekeeper?”
Theodore’s eyes widened, then he laughed, letting out a deflating sound.
“A man doing housework? Pathetic, living to wash other people’s underwear.”
Ugh, what an anachronistic jerk. He’s probably never done the dishes. And I wash my own underwear, thank you very much!
Dante also scanned him up and down with a contemptuous look and sighed.
“You’re hopeless.”
At the same time, Theodore’s eyes turned bloodshot as Dante grabbed him by the scruff of his neck.
“Ugh, what strength… You, that bitch’s…”
Smack!
The sound of a slap echoed as Theodore’s head snapped to the side.
“Don’t say unnecessary things.”
It was the tone of a strict drill sergeant. Dante slapped both cheeks in quick succession.
Why does slapping his cheeks sound like that? It sounds like a whip, not a smack.
“Stop hitting me, you bastard!”
Theodore, who was being slapped repeatedly, cried out desperately. Dante, who had kicked away one of the underlings who was rushing at him, called out to me.
“Master.”
Dante’s eyes, as he looked at me, were somewhat relaxed.
I was staring blankly at the underling who had been kicked and was now lying on the other side of the broken wall with a hole in it. He flew through the wall, just now?
“I will begin cleaning.”
With Dante’s words, the basement door slammed shut with an unknown force. All sorts of impacts, gunshots, and screams echoed from beyond the closed door.
I could roughly guess the situation outside from the sounds. Judging by the fact that he wasn’t exposing any cruel and violent scenes, he’s a wholesome man who values an all-ages rating.
“Will he be okay?”
I muttered to myself, pacing in front of the door. I know he’s strong, but I’m still worried.
Have I already grown attached? Or is it because he fits my ideal type: ‘a man who’s good at housework but perfect as long as he doesn’t betray me’?
A little while later, the door opened, and Dante appeared.
Unlike him, who was in pristine condition, the thieves were lying in a mess.
“You can come out now.”
He fought a crowd alone—no, looking again, he beat up a crowd alone. Anyway, his voice wasn’t even slightly out of breath.
“Did you kill them?”
At my question, he ran a hand through his hair, holding a gun in the other, and replied.
“No, tomorrow is recycling day. It’s awkward to dispose of them.”
They are indeed non-recyclable waste.
Dante, who took off his gloves, biting them with his mouth, held out his hand to me.
“I’ll take you to your room.”
I carefully stepped over the threshold and took his hand.
Seeing the broken walls, the fallen thieves, and the blood splattered everywhere made me feel a little dizzy.
“Uh…”
I must have been very nervous. Dante, who supported me as my legs gave way and I almost collapsed, said.
“That must hurt.”
“Where?”
“Here.”
He pointed to my left knee.
As soon as I realized that my knee was bleeding profusely, the pain belatedly rushed in.
“Ouch… It stings.”
“Your awareness is slow.”
He lifted me up and sat me on a nearby box, then knelt on one knee and tied a handkerchief around my wound.
“It looks like you hurt your ankle too.”
“Ah, no, I didn’t.”
Dante grabbed my left foot and pulled it upwards. I felt tremendous pain again.
“Aah!”
Dante looked up at me with a face of certainty.
“I’m right. Your wrist is swollen too. Did they hit you?”
I felt a sense of crisis only when I saw him trying to touch my wrist.
Surely, he’s not going to break it on purpose to prove he’s right, is he?
“Yes! You’re right about everything!”
At my shout, acknowledging that he was right about everything, Dante’s blue eyes suddenly turned cold.
“…I see.”
His voice was cold, the end of his sentence dropping sharply.
I was being held by Dante like a princess. I felt a little embarrassed by his solid chest and the rise and fall of his breath so close to me.
He asked me as I curled up like a pill bug.
“You’re not crying. You must have been scared.”
“I know it’s no use crying.”
A long breath fell over my forehead. He didn’t say anything else and silently moved his feet.
On the way to the room, I thought of the thieves left in the underground passage and looked at him.
“Dante, is it okay to leave those guys there?”
“I’ve sealed off the entrance. We’ll stop by the police station tomorrow when we go to the hospital.”
This man walks quite fast. We were already in front of my room.
He put me down on the bed.
I sprawled out on the bed as I was.
“Ugh…”
I let out an unsightly sound, feeling drained all over.
Dante, who washed his hands and took out a bottle of medicine, came over and sat down, lowering his posture.
“Sit up. I need to apply the medicine.”
I barely managed to sit up on the bed.
While he dabbed red medicine on my knee, I looked at him, oblivious to the pain.
He asked, absorbed in applying the medicine.
“Doesn’t it hurt? You’re enduring it well.”
“It hurts more when you ask.”
After finishing with a bandage, Dante straightened his back and gestured with his chin.
“Master, lie down.”
“Yes?”
At my question, he lowered his eyes and looked down at me, saying.
“You need to lie down to finish.”
My back stiffened at his languid voice.
Finish what?
I may be a little rotten, but I think the sensuality and decadence he possesses are the cause.
“Ah, you’re going to give me a hot compress? Thank you.”
I banished the devil inside me and immediately lay down on the bed sheet.
Creak, the mattress shook, and Dante’s unique scent came closer.
Dante, who was sitting on the edge of the bed and touching my ankle, said.
“It doesn’t seem like there’s anything wrong with the bone. Fortunately.”
“Yes, I’m quite healthy. I jumped from the second floor when I was a kid, but I only got bruises.”
“You were a troublemaker.”
“Just, a burden. The aunt who raised me hated me. Eventually, I ended up living with my grandfather.”
There was a fire on the second floor, and I jumped to live. My aunt glared at me, saying I had a long life.
Dante, who was quietly wringing out a wet towel, muttered.
“That’s the adults’ fault.”
Seeing him putting a hot towel on my throbbing ankle made me feel strange. Shouldn’t the roles be reversed in terms of status? I should have been the one serving him.
He took out another towel, soaked it in water, and asked.
“You look weak, is there anything you need? Something to drink, perhaps?”
“Ah, I…”
Just then, my stomach rumbled loudly. It was even unnecessarily grand. I must be hungry because I used too much emotion. I gave a sheepish smile.
“I think I need a menu.”
Soon, he quickly brought me something to eat. It was toast with buttered and grilled bread, scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese.
That looks delicious. As I picked up the toast, I felt a tingling pain in my wrist.
“Huh?”
I dropped the toast on the plate and grabbed my wrist with a flustered face. It throbbed even more when I clenched and unclenched my fist.
The impact of bracing myself when the thief pushed me must have been great. I turned my head and looked at Dante.
“I think I’ve lost my arm.”
“Do I need to feed you?”
I raised my perfectly fine arm and laughed awkwardly.
“Fortunately, I still have one left.”
While I was eating the toast, he wrapped a bandage around my wrist. I sighed, looking at my bandaged arm.
“Sigh, it’s going to be a little inconvenient to live. When changing clothes or washing.”
“Are you asking me to help you? I don’t mind.”
I suddenly felt my face flush. I averted my eyes and shook my head.
“I should go to sleep now, okay?”
“Yes, then I’ll take off your clothes for you.”
“No! That’s not what I meant!”
Don’t say things like that with the benevolent face of a social worker.
I meant for him to leave, but he stayed here.
“I’ll stay by your side until you fall asleep.”
I lay in bed and glanced at him. He seems to have a caring side. And I don’t dislike being taken care of.
Early in the morning, our social worker came to my room and personally prepared breakfast for me.
“You changed your clothes well without one hand.”
Dante gave me a look of admiration. No, my arm is perfectly fine, you know?
“Ah, that is…”
Strangely, it was all better when I woke up. The wound on my knee had also disappeared, but I put the bandage back on because I thought he would think it was strange.
“I’m a professional at that.”
Even I thought it was an abnormal recovery, so I didn’t have any excuses and finished my meal with a rough explanation.
Hmm, this man’s cooking is amazing. He’ll be good at making kimchi too.
“It must be hard to wash your hair since it’s long, so I’ll wash it for you.”
He said, wrapping my brown hair around his finger.
Seeing that he put a little emphasis on the ‘since it’s long’ part, he must still be bothered by my hair.
“Ah, yes…”
Dante picked me up and headed to the garden. Why are we coming here? Why?
When I came to my senses, I was lying face down on a white outdoor bench with a parasol.
I can see a bucket under my face.
“Excuse me, is this a guillotine?”
I asked cautiously like a criminal, but Dante didn’t answer and just sprinkled water on my head with a watering can. Ah, is he an executioner!
I hired a mastermind as a housekeeper
