Chapter 35

Chapter 35

Scarlett cried her eyes out until she was exhausted and fell asleep again. It was afternoon when Scarlett finally opened her eyes and hurriedly got up.

"Isaac?"

She was lying in bed covered with a blanket, and Isaac was still sitting on the chair by the window, looking outside.

When Scarlett called his name, Isaac looked at her and smiled.

"Did you sleep well?"

Scarlett looked at his eyes and rushed to hug Isaac's neck tightly. More than half of the thread-like things in his eyes had disappeared, and wine-colored pupils could be seen in between.

Isaac said.

"I can see a little better than last night. And the pain is mostly gone now."

"Really? How much can you see?"

"Well... it's still blurry to the point where I can't distinguish anything... but it'll get better."

Isaac said and smiled.

Scarlett looked at Isaac with a curious and happy face.

Isaac soon said.

"Aren't my eyes disgusting?"

"Not at all. And they've decreased a lot since the beginning."

"That's a relief. I can't see that much yet, but since I think these things are healing my eyes... I actually find them kind of cute?"

Scarlett laughed happily at his playful words. Then, as if she had just remembered something, she got up and said.

"Still, let's go eat something delicious."

"Shall we?"

"Yeah. Liv's bakery sells grilled sandwiches for lunch at twelve o'clock, you know? The freshly made sandwiches are really delicious. Let's go eat them."

"Oh, that sounds good?"

Isaac followed Scarlett, who was happily leading the way.

At first, he tried to walk while looking with his own eyes, but since he couldn't distinguish objects, it was even more dangerous than when he closed his eyes. In the end, Isaac closed his eyes again with a bandage and moved forward, groping with his cane.

Meanwhile, Scarlett, who had no energy the day before, ran down the stairs with a bang, and Andrei, who was greeting a guest who looked like a noblewoman, clicked his tongue. Then he said to the guest.

"You don't think that such a tomboy is our boss, do you?"

The guest laughed at the joke, and Scarlett ran and hugged Andrei tightly. Then she asked the guest.

"Can I hug you too, ma'am?"

"Looks like you have something good going on?"

"Yes, a lot."

"If that's the case."

The guest laughed cheerfully, so Scarlett hugged the guest tightly once before letting go.

A little later, Isaac, dressed neatly, came down the stairs and said to Andrei.

"You're having a hard time because of my sister, Andrei."

"It's a relief that someone recognizes it."

Scarlett playfully poked both men one by one as they talked and teased her. But soon, overwhelmed with happiness, she urged Isaac to enter Liv's bakery.

Scarlett, who was selling sandwiches and chatting with customers out of boredom, found Liv and called her.

Liv froze when she saw Scarlett and Isaac with bandages over his eyes. Not only her, but other female customers as well. At the sight, Scarlett whispered to Isaac.

"I'm going to be tormented because of you from now on."

"Why?"

"There's a reason."

Scarlett said and burst into an uncontrollably happy laugh again.

For several days, Isaac recovered at Scarlett's house. The speed was slow, but the two were happy just that it wasn't getting worse. Isaac had lived in complete darkness for a long time, so he was completely satisfied with his current state.

Early in the morning, as Isaac was about to leave the store to work on the raft, Scarlett asked worriedly.

"Why don't you rest a little more?"

But Isaac shook his head.

"I want to work."

"Okay... I can't help it. Go and be careful."

Isaac smiled and nodded at Scarlett's words.

If it had been before, she would have worried, but Scarlett had seen that Isaac was unusually strong. Besides, Scarlett also knew that the raft work was a very important part of life for Isaac, who had been trapped in the attic for a long time.

Isaac looked back at Scarlett with both eyes once again. If they got close enough that their faces almost touched, he could see her face very faintly. Isaac couldn't stop smiling because he was happy about that fact.

Scarlett smiled and turned Isaac's body around.

"Stop looking."

"I'm just amazed that I can see you no matter how much I look."

Isaac said, then stumbled in the middle and staggered. Then, embarrassed by Scarlett's frowning face, he quickly looked ahead and ran.

After Isaac had completely left, Scarlett sat powerlessly in front of the store.

"It's true."

While she was so happy that Isaac's eyes could see, pain poured out from one corner of her heart.

"I really did sell Viktor for the medicine..."

Out of her own greed, she knocked down the ladder that Viktor was climbing, dedicating his entire life to it.

"I'm sorry, Viktor."

She buried her face in her knees and muttered.

"I'm really, really sorry..."

She was worried that Isaac was already working, and she felt so guilty about Viktor, so she couldn't concentrate on work today.

"It would be more efficient to rest."

As soon as Scarlett had that thought, she immediately prepared to go out and sneaked down the stairs.

Andrei, who was cleaning the display case so that not a speck of dust could sit on it, glared at her.

"Where are you going?"

"Oh, I'm going to hang out with Liv for a bit. And check if Isaac is doing well at work... Is that okay?"

"Just come back early."

Andrei didn't nag her for once, probably because he thought Scarlett needed a break. Only then did Scarlett feel relieved and playfully ask.

"Shall I buy you a gift?"

"My gift is that the boss works hard and gets a raise."

"No romance, no romance."

"There's nothing more romantic in the world than a raise."

At Andrei's cold words, Scarlett pouted and left the store.

The place she decided to chat with Liv was 'Naval Officer's Ice Cream Shop' run by Nikolaus, who was a sniper on the Rubid Ship.

Nikolaus ran out happily when Scarlett entered.

"You've finally come, Miss Scarlett! I've been waiting for you!"

His wife, Mackenzie, who heard his loud voice, also came out of the store to greet her.

Scarlett, seeing her pregnant belly, was horrified and said.

"Why are you coming out when you should be sitting down!"

"Oh, how can I sit when you've come, miss? My husband has so much more energy than before after you fixed his Prosthetic hand, miss! He says it's much easier to scoop ice cream now?"

Mackenzie chattered sociably and prepared a good seat by the window for the two guests. A basket with yellow flowers carved out of soap and a tan tablecloth evoked the scenery of a simple farmhouse.

Liv lowered her voice and said.

"The store is so pretty, but it doesn't match the name at all."

"I know."

Scarlett agreed and smiled.

In the meantime, the ice cream came out. Scarlett, who was so happy these days because Isaac's eyes were getting better little by little, kept smiling while eating the ice cream.

Then Liv, who was sitting across from her eating ice cream, flicked the back of Scarlett's hand.

"Oh, get a grip."

"That hurts!"

"Stop exaggerating..."

Nikolaus, who was bringing out more different kinds of ice cream at the sight, flinched.

Scarlett Crimson was smiling like an ordinary girl over there, but until recently, wasn't she the noblewoman of the great Dumpelt Family?

Nevertheless, the people of 7th Avenue, including Liv, didn't particularly guard against Scarlett. Some even looked down on her.

Of course, it was a scandalous divorce that everyone in the capital knew about. In people's impressions, the impression of being kicked out was stronger than the divorce.

However, in the minds of those around Captain Viktor, Scarlett still had considerable influence over Viktor. Perhaps Scarlett Crimson was the only person who had anything that could be called 'influence' on Viktor Dumpelt in the first place.

In any case, what was clear was that if anyone knew that someone had touched Scarlett like that, even as a joke, Viktor would not stand still.
