“I’m grateful to you for saving my sister, but running away like this… it’s just too suspicious.”
As if he wouldn’t have been dying to dig into my identity even if I’d stayed put!
Besides, he was using polite honorifics like a proper gentleman just a moment ago; now that I’ve run, he’s dropped the formalities and is treating me like a criminal.
Even as I was being dragged out by the scruff of my neck, I gripped the edges of my hood tightly. I couldn’t let him see my face.
“Take off the hood.”
“Why are you trying to strip a stranger’s clothes off? Are you a pervert? Help! Someone help me!”

The look in Eden’s eyes turned chilling. I flinched for a moment as I caught the flash of madness in his pupils. Right. I forgot this guy isn’t exactly sane either.
“Seeing how desperately you’re hiding your face, I definitely need to verify your identity. You know something about that beast, don’t you? Why were you here at this hour? If you don’t start talking by the time I count to three, get ready to die—”
It was just as Eden grabbed the edge of my hood.
“Kyaaaaah!”
A scream, presumably Aurora’s, echoed from far away.
While Eden faltered in surprise, I shook him off and started running again.
“Damn it!”
I heard Eden spit out a curse as he looked back and forth between my fleeing figure and the direction of Aurora’s scream.
Then, I suddenly realized that the brooch fastening my robe was gone.
‘You’re not Cinderella, Cherry! Of all things, why did you have to drop that there!’
I cursed my own carelessness and tried to turn back, but Eden had already picked up the brooch from the ground.
After examining the brooch for a moment, Eden tucked it into the pocket of his police uniform jacket. Then, he sprinted off toward Aurora.
I let out a sigh and slumped to the ground.
The brooch Eden took didn’t have the Sinclair family crest engraved on it.
However, it was an even more important item to me. It was a gift from my late father.
It was a brooch set with rubellite, a gemstone that matched my hair color, surrounded by delicate gold flowers that resembled the color of my eyes.

Still, there was no way he’d ever guess the initials stood for ‘Cherry Sinclair.’ The Cherry Sinclair known to the world would never be found beating down monsters in a back alley like this.
The shock of losing my father’s last gift was immense, but for now, I had to survive.
‘Right. He won’t know it’s me.’
More than that, Aurora’s sudden scream weighed on my mind. The monster was definitely dead, so why did she scream again?
I was worried, but I couldn’t go back there. Not when I risked being caught by Eden again.
