Ch#71
Azazel, who vanished in an instant before Saraka, reappeared atop the chandelier in the banquet hall, now shrouded in darkness with only chaotic murmurs filling the air. Looking down, he saw Flauros—his angelic face scrunched up—clutching his nose.
Azazel and Flauros, their natures incompatible, found each other's scent particularly repulsive. With their vision stolen and their sense of smell malfunctioning, they shouldn't have been in their right minds, yet Flauros sensed Azazel's presence amid it all and charged toward him.
Azazel began playing the role of bait, drawing Flauros's gaze to himself. In the meantime, the girl neatly dressed in her gown started to move.
Currently, the only one in the banquet hall who could clearly see their surroundings—aside from Azazel—was exactly one other person. The individual Saraka had personally selected as most suitable for assassinating the Crown Prince was one of his twin daughters, the Princess.
Seeing the Princess seize the chaos to plunge a dagger into her father's heart, Azazel hung the Crown Prince's collar on the chandelier, decorating it so his corpse would be perfectly displayed, visible to everyone at a glance.
As Saraka had requested, the floor bore a modified Summoning Circle—the kind sorcerers used to summon demons. If everyone in the banquet hall began summoning demons, it would exceed the Temple's capacity to manage, so the shape had been deliberately altered slightly.
The Summoning Circle employed insidious deceptions to lure humans into summoning demons, and even its roughly similar form was enough to incite those who witnessed it.
This sigil would spread from the nobles, covertly gaining popularity. Among the deluded, some would eventually track down the true Summoning Circle and summon demons successfully; even those who failed deserved punishment for betraying Rahel God by blindly trusting the fake. That would be the time to fully recommence the massacre of heretics.
