Chapter 7
Husband is the Main Character 7
“Still, don’t worry. I can take care of finding a place for the family to stay.”
“What?”
For a moment, my mind went blank.
He’s going to take care of it? Since when did that man have so much confidence?
It was hard to believe that someone who was always passive and never stepped forward would speak with such certainty.
“What are you going to do? Oh, it’s not that I don’t trust you, I’m just curious. Do you have a good idea or something?”
Did the fall of the family really snap him out of it?
I didn’t want to think it was thanks to the Emperor’s shock therapy, but I wondered if it had awakened my husband to some extent.
My husband drank some cold water and stared into space with slightly serious and firm eyes.
With a look and determination I had never seen before, he opened his mouth.
“First, I need to earn money to buy a house.”
“……?”
\ \ \
I was dumbfounded.
A house wasn’t like bread you could just buy on the way, so where was he suddenly going to get the money to buy one?
But I couldn’t stop him.
I was so speechless that I couldn’t move.
‘Wife, please wait here.’
His will was so firm.
‘He’ll probably be back soon, in just a few hours.’
Believing that, I paced anxiously around the room.
I was worried that he might do something too dangerous and reckless and get hurt.
But why did he suddenly ask for the tyrant’s name…?
‘I have one question I’d like to ask.’
‘What is it?’
‘What’s his name? That tyrant, the Emperor.’
“…….”
Was he planning to engrave the enemy’s name deep in his heart anew?
My husband’s words and actions were just too unsettling.
Ah.
What a fate.
Come to think of it, I’d never heard of anyone whose mind worked properly after eating rat poison.
‘Just come back quickly, Alex…….’
\ \ \
Alex, who had left the inn, wandered around for a while, watching his surroundings.
Clear and intense eyes, a perfectly angled nose, and seductive red lips.
Even his tall height, which was bound to stand out wherever he went.
People passing by all glanced at his face.
He also scanned people’s clothes, pretending not to notice.
Silk hats and canes, shiny dresses and abundant lace, which were hard to see in the era he lived in.
‘18th century? Or is it the 19th…?’
Coming outside where people were coming and going, he realized that this was really a different world.
In other words, it was like being in history.
‘It seems like I’ve come a long way into the past, but I’m glad it’s not the Stone Age.’
However, despite the System reward, he was in an emergency situation with no home and no money.
Was he really going to live here from now on?
For the time being?
Or forever?
Alex moved his feet and recalled the owner of the empire who had ruined him.
‘The Emperor’s name? It’s Axen Kaisley. Why are you asking all of a sudden?’
“…….”
Axen Kaisley.
It was a name he had heard somewhere before.
Strangely enough, he felt like he already knew a tyrant with that exact name.
Narrowing his brow slightly and rummaging through his memories, he suddenly realized.
‘Could it be that book?’
Alex recalled a book he had received as a System reward in his previous life.
It was a novel titled <The Distorted Sun>.
The name of the main character was Axen Kaisley.
Despite being born into the imperial family, Axen had an unremarkable and unfortunate childhood.
He hated his situation so much that he always dreamed of power that no one could ignore.
Eventually, Axen carved out his destiny with blood and ascended to the throne.
It was the result of assassinating his uncle and aunt, the Emperor and Empress, and imprisoning his young cousin, who was the heir to the throne.
‘Could it be that I’ve entered that book?’
I wondered whether to read it or not, but it turns out it would be useful in this way.
It was amazing.
To end up living in the world of that book.
But he soon became indifferent. After all, this was also part of the System’s plan.
He began to recall what Alexis, whom he had possessed, was like in the book.
It didn’t come to mind easily, so it seemed he wasn’t a major character.
As he rummaged through his memories, he suddenly remembered an extra who died early on.
There was a duke who died after eating rat poison. When her husband died, his wife followed him.
‘Could it be that I’m that duke now?’
A tyrant in his earthly paradise, which he had obtained as a reward after the difficult ending.
He hadn’t even been able to see the grand ducal mansion, and he had been deprived of his high status, which would have allowed him to live an easy life.
He hadn’t suffered any direct damage, but the fact that the duke had become a pauper bothered him a little, no, a lot.
Originally, Alexis would have died immediately after eating the rat poison.
That’s when it happened.
“Wow! It’s the stupid Duke Alexis!”
Thud.
Something slimy flew and hit his forehead.
“…….”
A sweet and rich scent, like that of a soft fruit, wafted over him.
The hard seed sharply struck his smooth forehead and fell.
He wiped away the unpleasant juice that was wetting his face and raised his eyes, which shone with a sharp light.
Who dared to do this?
‘Skill. Murderous Gaze.’
This gaze alone was a terrifying skill that made even the most brutal monsters cower.
I won’t let that bastard get away with it…….
But at that moment, he noticed something strange.
‘Ah, it’s gone. The skill…….’
Because the System doesn’t exist here.
It might not have appeared yet, but somehow he felt a little empty.
The one who attacked him was unexpectedly a young human.
A woman, presumably his mother, approached a boy dressed like a noble family’s child.
“Adam! You can’t do this, even if he’s a nice person! And he’s not a duke anymore!”
“…….”
The woman didn’t even look at him and hurriedly disappeared with her son.
Alex stared blankly at their retreating figures for a moment.
He couldn’t believe it.
‘Have you been living like this all along, Alex……?’
To be despised and assaulted by a child the size of a mouse.
It was a situation he couldn’t understand at all.
Alex’s eyes shone as coldly as when he used his skill.

In the end, I spent the night awake.
My husband didn’t return until the next morning.
I was so out of it that I couldn’t even properly pack him something to eat, so where did he sleep last night?
“Could I stay one more day…?”
“How long are you planning to stay?”
The innkeeper asked irritably.
“Well, I’m not sure, but just a few more days… If I stay for more than two days, could you give me a discount on the room rate-.”
“What? Now you’re asking for a discount?”
“Yes?”
“Yesterday, your husband said that if he came back, he’d pay three times the room rate and told me not to kick you out, so why are you changing your mind?”
“…….”
What was she talking about?
For a moment, I felt faint.
I thought that if I said my husband’s words were ridiculous lies, she would kick me out right away, so I just went back to my room.
‘That man, really!’
I should have followed him.
Another anxious day passed.
My mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and I were gathered at a table in the inn’s garden.
There was warm tea, but I was too anxious to even take a sip.
My sister-in-law, who was sipping her tea next to me, muttered sullenly.
“I don’t understand how Older Brother is going to find a house. Did the rat poison mess up his head?”
“Eloy.”
I glared at her for disparaging my husband.
Eloy didn’t care and pouted even more.
“Why? Did I say something wrong? What can Older Brother do? He can’t hunt, let alone ride a horse or use a sword. So how is he going to get the money to buy a house?”
“What does that have to do with buying a house? He must have gone out because he has a plan.”
“A plan, my foot. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s just wandering around getting hit by rocks.”
“…….”
I stared at Eloy with cold, sunken eyes.
Sadly, my sister-in-law’s words weren’t wrong.
Alex didn’t even do the common things like riding or hunting. He never ran either.
I didn’t know why he was so sensitive to movement, even though it wasn’t that intense.
Doctors and other therapists tried to find the cause, but they couldn’t figure it out.
Alex also tried to get better by taking various medications, but there was very little improvement.
I thought his condition was like a severe obsession or mental illness.
Doctors asked him several times if there was a special reason why he couldn’t move vigorously, but he didn’t say anything, as if there was nothing like that.
