57 - Marquis Maron
Episode 57
Maris Mare Kasnatura.
The character who made me scream that I wish I had an older brother like him while reading the original novel, "I Think It's Okay to Have Multiple Husbands."
"Aish, damn it!"
The moment I opened the door and saw the fine black hair cascading over the shoulders of a nobleman inside the store, I turned right around and walked back out.
But my Omnivore grabbed my wrist and dragged me inside.
"What's wrong? The old man is here."
"No, that's not it..."
"Just stand here and bear it, even if it's annoying. I'm the one doing all the annoying stuff anyway, so what's the problem?"
Reikart strode across the center of the store and went to the counter. Then he grabbed an employee and asked,
"I'd like to buy some thick, well-insulated fur. It's for winter protection, so the price can be a little high."
"Yes? Ah, yes."
"Show me some winter cloaks too. And women's shoes. They need to be well-insulated."
"Ah, I see. Understood. But young master, could you wait a moment? I have something to give to the customer who came in earlier."
"I'll wait."
The store was large, but there were only two employees, so they seemed very busy. It was all because of Asta's brother, Maris Mare.
It seemed the employees knew who he was, so I pitied them in my heart.
Right. How nervous would they be when royalty suddenly appeared? The relationship between the service industry and customers is always so dirty and mean.
Besides, this is a romance fantasy world, and he's the crown prince, right? The crown prince who is famous for being cold and emotionless like a doll.
The epitome of a sister complex who couldn't open his heart to anyone except his younger sister Asta and lived as a bachelor his whole life.
"Ugh."
When I read the original novel, I thought a hundred times that I wanted an older brother like that, but after being possessed into this damn fantasy world, it couldn't be more cringeworthy and awkward.
Let's not get close.
Let's not get involved.
Let's not even make eye contact.
"Wait a moment."
But Maris spoke to Reikart.
"You, aren't you Reikart, the young master of the Winter Dukedom?"
Damn it! How did he recognize him!
I cursed inwardly. Was Maris such a smart character? How would I know if he knew Reikart's face or not? Reikart always covered his face in the original novel.
Besides, Reikart is from the northernmost part of Nieve, and Maris is the crown prince of Kasnatura, a southern country.
Did they see each other at some Three Kingdoms alliance party? Or do crown princes have to memorize portraits of major figures from each country?
Unlike me, who was bewildered with a huge lollipop in my mouth, Reikart gracefully turned his head and looked at Maris.
Then he said very, very shamelessly,
"I've never heard of such a thing."
"What?"
"Who are you?"
Wow.
I was impressed, and Maris was silent.
Maris seemed to think that couldn't be possible. He didn't pay any attention to Reikart's words that he had never heard of such a thing and took another step forward, closing the distance between them.
Then he said again,
"I didn't expect you to be alive. Although the Winter Dukedom lost in the war between families, I believed they wouldn't be so powerless as to be annihilated."
"I don't know who you're talking about or why you're doing this."
"Cyril Vandision is in Enif."
The store froze at Maris's casual words.
Presence is a strange thing. An unremarkable moment, an unremarkable tone, an unremarkable action can draw attention and change the density of the air.
I thought it was just a protagonist effect, but it seemed to work for supporting characters like Maris as well.
Reikart stared at Maris without a word.
Maris calmly accepted his gaze. Then he warned coldly,
"Enif is Kasnatura's land, and I am Crown Prince Maris. I hope there won't be any nobles from Nieve drawing their swords and causing trouble here, claiming to settle grudges between families."
If you ignore this warning, something bad will happen to you.
Reikart understood all the unspoken words Maris had swallowed and laughed. Since both were characters with cold atmospheres, even the air between them felt frozen.
"I am."
Reikart grabbed my hand tightly and said,
"Just an ordinary traveler here to buy fur clothes for my girlfriend."
Maris rolled his eyes and glanced at me. I bowed my head deeply and prayed that this moment would pass quickly.
"Fur clothes in the south in autumn..."
"She gets cold easily."
I suddenly became an inconsiderate girlfriend who was pestering her boyfriend to buy her fur clothes on such a warm autumn day.
When did my Omnivore become so shameless? Who did he take after to change like this? He wasn't like this at first.
"Your girlfriend."
Maris asked.
"What's her name?"
I quickly answered,
"Zeus."
Maris sighed softly.
I couldn't get any of the high-quality fur I was aiming for. Maris didn't seem like he would let Reikart go, so I suddenly pretended that the meat I ate at lunch was bad and put on the acting performance of a lifetime, claiming to have enteritis, to escape the situation.
Reikart laughed, saying why did I have to pretend to have enteritis of all things, but now was not the time to maintain his dignity as the Marquis of Maron Keep.
"You don't know. Maris is a severe sister complex patient! If you get involved with Asta here, your head could be chopped off without anyone knowing."
"Sister what?"
"So, let's go home and shop next time. Or should we go to the next city?"
"Shopping? What's that?"
"A sister worshiper. Going around and shopping."
"Why should we avoid them? They should be the ones avoiding us. Aren't you upset?"
"No, I'm not. Not at all."
"Even if we get involved... it's okay. Don't worry. I'll somehow get you out of it."
"Why do you keep saying you'll save me? You should prevent the situation from happening in the first place!"
"It's Asta."
Reikart pointed ahead and said Asta was there, so I quickly pulled down my hood and continued my acting performance of a lifetime, claiming to have enteritis.
"Aigo, aigo, I'm dying..."
"Just kidding."
"Hey!"
"It wasn't Asta, it was Cyril Vandision."
Cyril was ahead. He was about 50 meters away from us. I was worried that Reikart would suddenly run out and swing his sword at Cyril, so I grabbed his hand and intertwined our fingers.
Just as Reikart was about to say something while looking at me, Maris, who appeared from behind, said,
"I never imagined you two would be like this. Things are so unexpected."
"Uh..."
"Is Zeus your new name?"
Maris gestured, and his servant handed Reikart a large bundle. It was wrapped like a bundle, but it was the high-quality fur from the jewelry store. There were also shoes and a cloak.
"It's a gift."
At this point, I had to ask.
"Excuse me, do you know me?"
"I do."
"Did Asta tell you about me?"
"Not everything, but roughly."
"Did you know it was me from the beginning?"
"When I heard that you were living with Reikart Winter in the Contaminated Zone, I thought it was impossible, but seeing it with my own eyes, I couldn't help but believe it."
Maris winked at me and said,
"Hayley, shall we talk about the details where Cyril Vandision isn't?"
I don't want to have any detailed conversations with you.
I said so with my whole body, but no one in this world understood my high-level body language.
