69 - I Got Engaged to a Blind Duke
Eyeless Duke and I are Engaged - Episode 69
“I came because I have something to say.”
“Yes.”
“Gerald suggested that I work as a temporary tutor for Lady Rubiana Adria and Young Master Peridot Adria.”
“I see. I clearly said through Assistant Olive that it wasn’t necessary. I can take care of the children.”
Dia’s cool voice carried a hint of suppressed anger.
Perhaps it was because her parents had passed away and she couldn’t trust anyone.
Marin hid her pity and nodded.
“I heard that too. But it will be difficult for you alone.”
“No. I can do it alone.”
Dia refused firmly.
Marin took a deep breath and said what she had prepared.
“I heard that Young Master Adria doesn’t sleep well. How long has he not been sleeping?”
Dia’s face, which was always expressionless like she was wearing a mask, crumbled slightly with worry.
“What does that have to do with a tutor?”
“I can help.”
“No, I don’t need any help…”
Marin gently cut Dia off.
“I understand how much you care for your siblings. I even understand that you can’t trust others. But sleep is important. And I can really make the Young Master sleep. So, will you trust me just once?”
Dia stared intently at the Duke’s fiancée sitting in front of her. Her sprout-like green eyes were shining kindly.
Trust me. What? Who?
The Duke’s fiancée was asking for something she couldn’t do right now.
As she said, Peridot was very sick.
He was frustrated because he couldn’t speak, cried often, and often skipped meals. He was irritable and sensitive, perhaps because he couldn’t sleep. The prescribed sleeping pills had been useless and were thrown away long ago.
Especially, he couldn’t sleep at all due to anxiety without his sisters. So, she and Garnet were taking turns putting him to sleep at night.
Nevertheless, as Peridot continued to spend the nights with his eyes open, they couldn’t sleep either.
Why wouldn’t they know that sleep is important?
Dia hesitated, unable to either affirm or deny the Duke’s fiancée’s words to trust her, and then slowly opened her mouth.
“If you’re talking about sleeping pills, they didn’t work.”
The Duke’s fiancée shook her head slightly.
“It’s not sleeping pills. I’ll tell you because you are The Duke Gerald’s family.”
Family? Are The Duke and we really family?
A cold smile formed on Dia’s lips.
She believed in The Duke’s appearance in the South and came all the way to the far West. But what she saw on the day of arrival was a grand party.
It hadn’t been long since our parents passed away. How could he do that?
Even if it was a party that had been planned long ago, it was natural to cancel or postpone it when a family member died.
Dia clenched her hands tightly on her lap. She could feel her nails digging into her skin.
Just like Garnet had shouted in that place, she wanted to pour out her resentment in the same way.
“Lady, I have the ability to put others to sleep.”
“…Yes?”
Dia, startled, blinked slowly, not knowing what to say.
If that was true, could she just tell that to others?
“You thought I was being frivolous, right?”
The Duke’s fiancée smiled brightly and nonchalantly saw through her thoughts.
“Yes.”
“Wow, you’re honest. Thank you.”
“I don’t understand what you’re thanking me for.”
“For being honest with me.”
Dia opened her mouth again with an incomprehensible expression.
“I’ve never… heard of such an ability before.”
“It’s hard to believe, right? But it’s worth a try. Will you give me a chance to put the Young Master to sleep?”
Why is The Duke’s fiancée trying to help them so much?
She could just ignore us, so why is she trying so hard?
We are not related at all.
“…Why, why are you doing this so much?”
Doubt arose in Dia’s deep green eyes.
The Duke’s fiancée slowly opened her lips as if choosing her words.
“Since you were honest with me, I’ll be honest with you too. First of all, Gerald promised to give me money if I become a tutor. Above all, I want to help the Young Master. Not being able to sleep is too painful.”
Dia stared blankly at The Duke’s fiancée, unable to hide her bewildered expression. Her eyes were very serious.
She wanted money? Does The Duke’s fiancée need money?
She heard that The Duke’s wealth was enormous.
Then the second reason is the truth, but why would she give such help to us, who are no different from strangers?
What does she want from us?
Dia stared at The Duke’s fiancée with confused eyes.
In the past, instead of constantly doubting like this, she would have easily believed her. She would have already grabbed her hand and begged her to help.
“Please have the Lady be with me when I put the Young Master to sleep. You can bring the Second Lady too.”
Dia lowered her eyes without saying a word.
Even while she was contemplating, The Duke’s fiancée waited quietly.
“…Please.”
Dia, who raised her head, whispered softly. She still couldn’t trust her, but she didn’t want to miss the possibility of even one in a million.
“Yes!”
The Duke’s fiancée, who met her eyes, smiled brightly.

Marin followed Dia and moved to her next room.
In the room, Garnet and Peridot were drawing and playing together.
“Sister! Why did you bring that person?”
Marin faced Garnet, who was glaring at her coldly, and smiled brightly.
“Hello, Lady.”
“Hmph.”
“Garnet, this is The Duke’s fiancée. Behave politely.”
Dia scolded with a stern face.
Garnet stood up with a face asking why she was suddenly taking that woman’s side.
“Politely? They were the first to be impolite. How could they have such a party on the day we arrived? I told you, didn’t I? I don’t want to talk to The Duke or that person!”
“Garnet!”
“Ugh.”
As the sisters raised their voices, Peridot, who was drawing on the floor, covered his ears and groaned.
Garnet quickly sat back down and hugged Peridot.
“It’s okay, Peridot. It’s okay. I didn’t fight with my sister.”
Peridot pushed Garnet away and slipped into Dia’s skirt.
Garnet frowned as if holding back tears, looking at Peridot’s back.
Meanwhile, Marin went in front of Dia and lowered her knees to match Peridot’s eye level.
Then, Dia, surprised, looked down at Marin.
“Hello, Young Master Adria. I am Marin Schwentz. We’ve met a few times, haven’t we?”
At Marin’s calm greeting, Peridot, who was hiding in her skirt, peeked out his face.
Peridot, seen up close, looked even more sick. His eyes were sunken and his cheeks were hollow.
‘Yes. I’ve seen you. I’m Peridot. Peridot.’
“Yes. I’ve seen you. I’m Peridot. Peridot.”
Marin followed Peridot’s lip movements exactly.
Peridot’s eyes widened like a surprised rabbit. Dia and Garnet were also surprised.
“Yes, I’ll call you Peridot.”
Marin continued to answer Peridot with a calm face.
At that sight, Dia asked with an unbelievable face.
“Can you read lip movements?”
“Yes.”
In her previous life, she had learned lip reading while working as a reading voice actor.
Meanwhile, Peridot, with an excited face, stepped out of Dia’s dress and took a step towards Marin. His black bead-like eyes shone for the first time in a long time.
‘Do you really know what I’m saying?’
“‘Do you really know what I’m saying?’ you said? Yes.”
Marin kindly followed the child’s words and even answered.
A small smile appeared on Peridot’s face.
Dia and Garnet couldn’t say anything and stared blankly at Peridot’s face. They didn’t know how long it had been since they had seen Peridot’s smiling face.
