Chapter 75
I felt the hair on my whole body stand on end.
The thing that was only the size of a finger last time I saw it had grown to the size of a fist, and now it seemed even bigger.
“Hey, Margaret. Don’t you think that’s it? The one we saw at the cliff.”
Kaiden narrowed his brows and squatted down to examine the egg.
“That… I think it’s definitely growing.”
“Huh?”
“And it keeps following me.”
“This…?”
Kaiden looked back and forth between me and the egg with an incredulous expression.
“Well, it’s strange that the thing we left in the forest was found in front of the cliff.”
“But what if this is really a Monster?”
Upon hearing my words, Kaiden stared at the silver egg with a thoughtful expression.
“It’s ominous, so we should get rid of it.”
As Kaiden reached out to touch the egg, I hurriedly grabbed his wrist. He looked at me with a puzzled expression.
“I’ll do it. What if you get hurt?”
Kaiden nodded in understanding and withdrew his hand. As expected, black smoke tried to come out of the egg but fizzled out. Kaiden stared at the egg in astonishment.
“Still, be careful, Margaret.”
At his urging, I nodded and carefully picked up the egg.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m okay. The egg is just a little warm.”
I examined the egg again, turning it this way and that. Why does it keep getting bigger? How much bigger is it going to get?
“I think it’s definitely a Monster. For an egg that was only the size of a finger to grow this much, it’s ominous.”
Kaiden nodded at my words.
“Let’s just throw it away far away.”
I nodded and followed him, placing the egg in the forest far away from our sleeping place before returning.
And we quietly settled down under the roots of a tree and tried to sleep.
I went inside, and Kaiden lay down near the entrance. Since the space was too small, we had no choice but to sleep closely together.
I was constantly wriggling because I was uncomfortable.
A thick arm wrapped around my waist. I felt a firm and warm chest against my back as I turned around.
Surprised and stiff, I raised my head, and Kaiden’s red eyes came into view.
“I thought you looked uncomfortable. I think it’s better this way. It’s cramped.”
He said dryly, with a face that seemed to have no ulterior motives.
I blinked blankly in his arms. Kaiden really seemed to have no ulterior motives, and if I pushed him away here, it would create a strange picture.
In fact, it was easier to fall asleep while being held in this narrow tree root.
In the end, I closed my eyes in his arms without any objection.
Then, breaking the silence, Kaiden spoke again.
“Margaret. Don’t you think it would be okay if we just lived together like this?”
He asked me in a small, whispering voice. His low voice lingered in my ear.
I leaned my face against his chest, slightly cowered, and carefully raised my head.
My eyes met Kaiden’s red eyes again. He stared down at me and spoke in an unusually gentle voice.
“Shall we leave together?”
Enoch had certainly made this suggestion to me as well. To leave just the two of us. Like in the beginning.
“…Even if we leave together, it’s meaningless without the Key that The Saintess has.”
Besides, Kaiden’s backpack in the cabin contained a survival kit (medicine and extra Bombs), so I had to take that at least.
Rather than answering whether I ‘wanted to leave with him’ or ‘didn’t want to leave,’ I considered a realistic solution.
The red eyes staring at me narrowed as if gauging my inner thoughts.
“All you have in your head is survival, isn’t it?”
“Then what else should I be thinking about in this situation?”
At my question, Kaiden looked at me with wide eyes for a moment before bursting into laughter. Because I was in his arms, I could feel his chest rising and falling.
After a long time, the trembling subsided, and Kaiden looked at me with a pleasant smile. His face was too close.
“Well, whatever. Just stay like that without changing.”
He gently pulled me closer and hugged me tightly. Then, he rested his chin on my head and said.
“You’re going to answer the same way to other guys anyway.”
At his words, I nodded silently.
Then his body trembled slightly. He was quietly laughing.
“That’s enough. That’s all I need.”
Of course, I was clueless and just blinked in his arms.
What on earth does he mean by that’s enough?
