Chapter 7
“Damn it!”
Enoch quietly looked down the mountain, finally spitting out a curse.
The day was exceptionally clear. The visibility was so good that the distant horizon was sharply defined.
There were two more mountain peaks of similar height to the one we had climbed, and beyond them, the horizon was faintly visible.
No matter how you looked at it, it was an island.
Ha……! Hahahaha!
“Damn it, it’s an island.”
I ran a hand over my face, swallowing bitter tears along with a sense of futility.
This further confirmed my hypothesis. That this place was inside the novel. Though it seemed it was never a hypothesis in the first place.
It was a while before I regained my senses and quietly took in the island’s topography.
A huge river flowed through the middle, looking just like the Han River in Seoul.
For convenience, let’s call the other side the North Island and this side the South Island. The South Island had another mountain of similar height to the one we had climbed.
So, the South Island had a total of two mountains, and the North Island had one.
“It’s really an island……”
I sank down on the spot. My legs had given way.
Enoch, who had gone out to look around, returned. And he sat down next to me with a look of exhaustion.
We sat there in silence, each lost in thought.
“Where on earth is this? Is it an island near the Langrid Empire? Or……”
Could it be Korea……? If it’s an island with modern Korean items, shouldn’t we consider that possibility?
Actually, an even bigger problem than being possessed by Margaret is that I didn’t read the novel to the end.
I think I only read up to the part where the female lead Yuanna escapes the island through the ‘Gate’ that appeared after a year. That was the end of Volume 1.
- A Gate connected to the outside world opens every year. And they had to survive on the island by any means necessary until that ‘Gate’ opened.
The novel was in the first-person perspective, but there was definitely such a phrase in the introduction.
It was someone’s handwritten novel for practice, and that phrase was in a different font, which was strange.
I was also amazed that someone would write a whole book by hand in this day and age, and the descriptions were very simple and realistic, making it feel like an actual record, which made it even more interesting to read.
‘This is all because I secretly stole someone else’s novel that I found on the street. Damn it.’
I tore at my hair.
And Enoch, sitting next to me, looked just as exhausted as he ran a hand over his face. He had a rather desperate look on his face.
“I can’t guess anything.”
Enoch narrowed his brow in distress, looking helpless. Then he cursed again and irritably ruffled his hair.
It was the first time I had seen him express such intense emotions. But I was just as desperate about this situation.
“To be abandoned on this damn island.”
I buried my face in my hands and swallowed my tears.
There is no God. It was unfair enough to die from being hit by a falling sign, but to have to film a real survival show in someone’s practice novel, this is too unfair.
I rested my hands on my cheeks with a gloomy face.
I have no choice. I need to gather as many survival items as possible, as I originally planned, and find the ‘Bunker’ that the female lead discovered.
‘By the way. What are the other characters doing right now?’
In my memory, the characters wake up in different places. Some woke up by the river, and some woke up in the middle of the forest.
Enoch argued with Margaret on the beach and then ran into the female lead, right?
The novel’s plot has already gone wrong from the start, but who cares? I need to survive first.
Growl.
Then a pathetic sound rang out from my hungry stomach. Enoch looked at me. It was my stomach that made the noise.
‘Oh, is it me again?’
Enoch’s stomach is quiet, but I don’t know why only my stomach keeps complaining that it’s hungry. Does it follow its owner?
But, when I think about it, we only ate Acai Palm and spent all our energy climbing the mountain. Enoch didn’t even sleep, so he must have consumed even more calories.
‘Okay. This is definitely a problem. Something needs to be done.’
I got up from my seat.
“Let’s go down first. Now that we know it’s an island, let’s go down and come up with a plan. And we have to survive.”
I held out my hand to Enoch, who was sitting down.
Of course, Enoch still had no place in my future plans. But I didn’t have the strength to run away from him right now.
Enoch looked at my outstretched hand, then looked up at me with an unreadable expression.
Only then did I remember that he hated me.
‘There’s no way he’ll take the hand that Margaret offered……’
I was about to withdraw my hand when he belatedly took it. His large hand gently wrapped around mine.
“Thank you.”
He still looked exhausted, but his terribly low voice was excessively sweet, which was bad for my heart.
No, why is this man still fresh and sweet even in a situation where he should be haggard?
I turned my back, grabbed the front of my chest, took a deep breath, made a fuss, and then looked back at Enoch with an indifferent face.
“Let’s go.”
First, we had to get down the mountain before sunset.
