Chapter 65
A while later, Diego came back with a wooden tub (Kaiden had made it as a substitute for a pot) filled with dressed duck and water. Then, he hung the pot on a support over the blazing firewood.
As the water began to boil, a savory smell filled the cabin. Only then did Asdal, who had disappeared into the second-floor room, come downstairs.
‘Should I share food with that freeloader?’
I seriously considered it, but there was no other way, so I decided to leave him alone for now. People never change anyway.
Once I find out the purpose of the Key, I’ll leave, so let’s just endure until then.
Cultivating patience, I sat quietly and accepted the duck stew that Diego served in a coconut bowl.
The dining table in the kitchen was for one person, so it was mainly used for cooking (it’s embarrassing to even call it cooking), so we all sat on the wide floor.
Even Asdal seemed embarrassed to sit alone at that table with Enoch, so he sat next to us.
There wasn’t much meat mixed in the stew. We were trying to feed seven people with two baby ducks, so it couldn’t be helped.
I was fine, but it must have been awkward for the men with me.
‘Still, I’m happy to eat meat after a long time.’
I tilted the coconut bowl and slurped the broth.
‘I wish I had some kimchi.’
I was diligently emptying the stew while thinking that.
I could have continued eating if Kaiden, who was sitting across from me, hadn’t been staring at me with his chin propped up.
I finally put down the coconut bowl and looked back at him.
Then Kaiden smiled as if he had been waiting for it. He was really pretty.
“You seem to like duck, Margaret. I like you.”
Cough. It wasn’t me who choked, but Luzef. Diego quietly brought him water as he coughed as if he was about to suffocate.
After seeing Luzef calm down a bit, I replied to Kaiden.
“I know you don’t. Just tear off a wing.”
Even after being rebuffed, Kaiden was smiling happily, as if he liked it.
I really don’t know what he’s thinking. That’s why I couldn’t just accept his kindness as good.
I looked at Kaiden with a queasy face and sighed. It’s the law of unchanging originals, I wonder if I’m going to be killed in another way like this.
‘Yeah, forget the original, just escape and survive.’
I made up my mind like that. Let’s survive somehow.
While I was making that resolution, I heard Enoch and Asdal arguing.
“Don’t be annoying and eat. Margaret is uncomfortable.”
“No, can’t I even say anything? I can complain that it doesn’t taste good. You really have no flexibility, now or then.”
“Stop talking about flexibility. You have no right to speak, since you just take and do nothing. So shut your mouth. Unless you want me to shut it for you.”
At Enoch’s brutal muttering, Asdal eventually surrendered with a dissatisfied face and shut his mouth.
Diego and Yuanna were busy eating stew, and on the other side, Luzef was grabbing Kaiden by the collar and shaking him, angry.
It was very noisy.
As the group grew larger, there were more things to worry about, and there were more annoying and troublesome parts. This bustling life was the first time I had experienced it.
Well, maybe… group life isn’t so bad after all.
