I scowled at the unexpected contact.
But I immediately realized that this was my chance, now that he was distracted. After watching his reaction, I pushed him away forcefully.
‘Now’s my chance!’
Taking advantage of his confusion, I kicked him in the shin again and quickly got up. He groaned softly and moved away from me.
I scrambled to my feet and ran straight into the bushes.
Thud, thud! I heard footsteps chasing me from behind.
I was gasping for breath. Sweat trickled down my temples and soon dripped from my chin.
Even if he didn't intend to kill me right away, I didn't want to get involved with him. I didn't want to spend my time trembling with the fear that I might die at his hands someday.
Having Enoch around was enough of that.
I braked, rounded a corner, and headed straight down the hill.
“Haa, haa.”
I was starting to worry that I might have trouble breathing.
“Wait! Hold on!”
Kaiden's shout came from not far away. The sound of his footsteps getting closer made me grit my teeth and run again.
I saw a huge, thick tree in front of me. Thick branches stretched out below the slope.
I picked up speed and leaped. Then, I lightly grabbed onto a branch extending below the slope and jumped straight down.
Thump.
I rolled lightly on the ground to cushion the impact. My dress was a mess, but of course, I was in no state to care about appearances.
I jumped up again and ran desperately.
Just when I thought I couldn't hear anyone following me, I tripped over a rock and fell, rolling down the steep cliff. My vision kept turning upside down as I rolled messily on the dirt ground.
My body, rolling mindlessly, finally stopped when it hit a solid tree trunk. I screamed at the unfamiliar pain.
‘Damn it, did I break a rib?’
As the pain intensified, my vision blurred.
‘But at least I shook off Kaiden. Amazing, shaking off the male lead.’
