Chapter 118
20. Reunion
I was in the fog for quite a while. No, actually, I had no idea how much time had passed.
What on earth is Zenas's purpose? Whether he's an Experimenter or not, there must be a purpose or reason for him to stay on this island for so long.
'Why are you doing this to me?'
What happened at Zenas's cabin made me even more confused.
'And what the hell is this damn fog!'
As I wandered through the fog for a while, I heard a sharp animal cry that sounded like scraping metal from somewhere.
Kyak!
I was so surprised that I sat down on the spot. I frowned for a moment at the pain in my stomach.
"Damn it."
The gauze was slightly stained with blood, as if the wound had opened.
Swish- Ssshhhh-
The sound that followed somehow sounded like a snake's cry.
'Could it be…'
"Eunji?"
As I looked around and called Eunji's name, I saw something wriggling in the fog.
Soon, a pure white snake appeared, poking its head out, and jumped up and down when it found me.
"Eunji!"
The creature quickly crawled on the floor and spun around me like crazy.
It seemed to have grown bigger than before, and I was worried that it might really become as huge as the Anaconda Monsters later on.
"Margaret."
I heard a familiar voice from somewhere. I turned around.
Before I knew it, the fog had completely cleared, and I was sitting in a forest with lush vegetation.
'What, where is this?'
And in the middle of it, a man with black hair was standing.
The man, standing with a sword dripping with black liquid, was staring at me as if he couldn't believe it.
He was covered in crimson blood. I was very surprised to see his tattered clothes and body full of wounds.
Wait, wounds? Blood?
I was momentarily startled, wondering if he was in a Berserk state.
But fortunately, he was in a rational state.
Despite his tall height, firm shoulders, and solid physique that seemed to have no soft spots, he had a faint, almost disappearing atmosphere as he looked at me. It wasn't the face a blood-soaked man would make, as if he was about to collapse.
"Enoch?"
When I called his name, the sound of the sword falling to the ground echoed dully.
Enoch came to me in one stride. He knelt down in front of me and hugged me tightly. So tight that it was hard to breathe.
I realized that his shoulder wound was more serious than I thought.
"Enoch, are you okay?!"
But Enoch just hugged me tightly and said nothing. After a long time, he let me go, grabbed my cheeks, and checked my complexion.
The man who had been giving off a faint, almost disappearing atmosphere just a moment ago was gone. His face finally came to life as he looked at me.
"I'm glad you're safe. I was worried that you…."
Enoch couldn't finish his words. He lowered his head and his gaze stopped on my stomach.
Only then did I remember that the gauze was stained with blood because I had been so surprised that I had sat down on the floor a little while ago.
"Ah, Enoch. This is…."
"Ha……. I couldn't protect you this time either. I'm sorry."
Enoch calmly washed his face with his dry hands. I was a little embarrassed and stretched out my arms to cover my stomach slightly.
Enoch's eyebrows were raised as if he was displeased as he looked at me. I quickly stepped back, wondering if he was going into Berserk state after seeing the blood. Then he seemed embarrassed, sighed, touched his forehead, and lowered his head.
"E, Enoch? Are you okay?"
Enoch was looking at me with a face full of apology. He pressed his lips tightly and stared at my face for a long time without saying a word.
"Enoch?"
When I called him again, he finally opened his mouth.
"I'm okay, the Berserk state. I can control it perfectly now."
"……Is that really true?"
Enoch nodded calmly. His eyes, looking at me, were filled with indescribable emotions.
"Thank you."
"Pardon?"
"For being alive."
It was a simple word, but the weight of the word was considerable. He slowly lowered his head and rested his forehead on my forehead.
"Margaret, I wanted you to live. Even if I had to give my life for you. That's why I was able to overcome it. It's all thanks to you."
Kaiden seemed to have said something similar once.
I don't know exactly how the wish for me to live helped him overcome his trauma, but I'm glad anyway. He doesn't have to be in pain anymore.
He slowly reached out his arms again and hugged me a little more gently this time. He grabbed the back of my neck, buried his face in my shoulder, and let out a hot breath as if he was relieved.
"I missed you."
He, who had always turned away with ambiguous words, now told me his feelings really firmly.
I was in his arms with a dumbfounded face.
Is this a dream? It might be.
Until a while ago, I was clearly in Zenas's cabin, but suddenly there was fog, and Enoch appeared so unrealistically right away.
"How did you find me? The current was so fast that I drifted quite far."
"No matter where you are, I would have searched the entire island to find you."
I, who had been quietly in his arms, slowly buried my face in his shoulder.
'He would have found me no matter where I was…….'
I only thought that I had to find them myself.
I thought that if I escaped to the Bunker or hid somewhere on the island as I had originally planned, the relationship would end there.
Until now, I had completely ruled out the possibility that they would come to me first.
That's probably because I've lived a life where I've never relied on anyone.
I felt my chest getting hot. My heart started beating fast.
