How to Survive the Horror Novel I Wrote

Chapter 30
Good men go to heaven, but bad men bring heaven to you.
I was in heaven. A heaven Ugeum had brought to me.
Wet lips. Scalding breath. Rough pants. Sweet whispers. The heat of bodies pressed together. A sticky, lingering gaze. Subtle, deliberate hands.
Heaven was made of such things. From the tip of Ugeum’s tongue, or from the tips of his fingers, bursts of pure white heaven bloomed, big and small.
Clutching the sleek fabric of his jacket with both hands, I clung desperately to his back. If I didn’t, I felt as though I would be blown away. Or fall into an abyss.
Kissing me, Ugeum whispered non-stop that he loved me. Over my forehead, my cheeks, the bridge of my nose, my lips, my chin, my ears, my neck, and my collarbones, his “I love you"s poured down like a torrential rain. It tickled. Everywhere his lips touched—and most of all, my heart.
A laugh threatened to spill out. I shouldn’t laugh. Yet I couldn’t remember why I shouldn’t.
I also wanted to cry. I couldn’t tell why.
Following the amber light blinking intermittently overhead, my consciousness flickered in and out.
Ugeum sucked at my neck like a vampire. I felt as if I were sinking into a swamp. Trapped, helpless, becoming utterly soaked.
“Haah, ungh….”
Between my wet breaths, a moan so lewd I couldn’t believe it came from my own mouth slipped out. Burying his head in the crook of my neck, Ugeum let out a pained groan.
All at once, Ugeum’s knee wedged between my legs, forcing them apart. The heavy, grinding pressure stole my breath away. It felt as though my entire body had turned into a single, pulsing heart, burning hot and trembling. Beneath the amber light, I could see the massive swell at the front of his trousers.
“Wait a second.”
Flustered, I grabbed Ugeum’s shoulders and pushed him back. In the sudden scuffle, the light flickered on. Under the amber glow, Ugeum looked down at me with a shadowed face.
The sight was strangely familiar. But before my thoughts could catch up, my mouth moved on its own.
“I’m not ready yet.”
…Huh?
A sudden wave of déjà vu washed over me. It felt as though I had said this once before. Not only that, but I also knew what words would come out of Ugeum’s mouth.
‘It can’t be helped.’
‘I’ll wait.’
‘I’m good at waiting.’
Yet what actually burst from Ugeum’s lips was something entirely different.
“You’re the one who called for me.”
What did that mean? My mind, addled with pleasure, couldn’t make sense of it. When I looked up blankly, Ugeum was staring down at me with an irritable, impatient expression.
In a low growl, Ugeum added,
“I can’t wait any longer.”
Then he devoured my lips. It was a ravenous kiss. It felt as if he were going to consume me whole.
Pushed back by the relentless assault of his lips, my head kept tilting backward. Ugeum caught the back of my neck, deepening the kiss even further.
It’s fine if he eats me alive like this.
The moment that thought crossed my mind, Ugeum’s hand crept inside my clothes. At his scorching touch, my chest felt as if it were melting away.
I couldn’t believe it. You’re a gentleman, Ju Ugeum. You can’t just force yourself onto a woman who says no.
“It’s not like you hate it.”
Ugeum retorted, his voice thick and strangely husky.
“…!”
I felt as though I had been stripped stark naked. It felt as if he had read a thought I hadn’t even spoken aloud.
“You like it. Doing this with me.”
Ugeum whispered, curving his lips into a bewitching smile. I could see his lips glistening, wet with saliva.
I couldn’t deny it. Because it was the truth. I loved every single sensation Ugeum gave me. The electric current coursing through my entire body, the melting heat, the pleasure that painted the inside of my head a blank white—all of it.
Ugeum’s hand, which had been clutching my heart, slipped out from beneath my clothes. Then, right before my eyes, he took off his suit jacket. He stripped off the vest underneath as well and tossed his tie aside. All while looking straight into my eyes with a dark, settled gaze.
Watching him, my mouth went dry. A strange impatience flared up inside me. The contradiction of wanting to run away while also wanting to pounce on him rooted me to the spot.
Soon, Ugeum caught me by the waist and lifted me up. Reflexively, I threw my arms around his neck. Belatedly, I thought he would smile. But Ugeum didn’t smile.
Unlike his usual self, who would smile whenever our eyes met, his face was entirely devoid of laughter. With eyes boiling over with pitch-black lust, he stared piercingly down at me as he strode across the living room with long steps.
Where Ugeum was headed was my bedroom. Where the bed was.
The moment I realized that, a tight pull seized my lower abdomen. Was it from nervousness, or anticipation? Or perhaps both?
Shortly after, Ugeum set me down on the bed.
I have to run away.
But why?
Without even remembering the reason, I leaned back on my elbows and scuttled backward across the mattress.
Yet I didn’t think I could actually escape. Because I already knew. That no one could ever escape from Ugeum.
Ugeum followed on his knees, catching my legs and dragging me down. I fell flat on my back, hauled straight toward him.
Ugeum climbed over my thighs. Looming over me on his knees, looking down with dark, turbulent eyes, he began to unbutton his shirt one by one.
I couldn’t take my eyes off the widening gap of his shirt.
A bare body I had seen only once in a passing glimpse before, one so erotic I hadn’t dared look directly at it, yet had remained burned into my retina like the afterimage of the sun—it was gradually revealing itself.
When the final button came undone, the shirt veiling Ugeum’s body was stripped away in a single motion.
Broad shoulders, deep collarbones, firmly sculpted chest muscles, well-defined abdominal ridges like pieces of chocolate, a sleek waist…. It was a truly flawless body. I swallowed dryly.
“You have no idea in your wildest dreams. Just how long I’ve waited for this moment.”
Leaning over me, Ugeum muttered in a cracked voice.
What was he talking about? Just looking at his eyes was enough to tell. When he had such desperately yearning eyes.
Ached by his look, I reached out and stroked Ugeum’s eyelids. Ugeum caught my hand and pulled it down. His uncovered eyes were boiling with raw ferocity.
Within those eyes, an affection bordering on madness was visible. With that fierce gaze, he pressed a gentle kiss to my palm. But that was the limit of Ugeum’s patience.
Shedding the gentleman’s mask, Ugeum swept over me like a raging torrent. I gripped the sheets, trying desperately not to be washed away, but it was useless.
Upon the undulating sheets, I sank deep into an abyss-like pleasure.
It was terrifyingly ecstatic. So ecstatic it frightened me. Enough to make me wonder if I might fall straight into hell.
“No….”
A faint whimper escaped my lips.
At that, Ugeum chuckled softly against my lips and whispered,
“Liar.”
Right after, he pushed deep into the tender flesh I had never yielded to anyone. My head arched back, my spine bent like a bow, and my toes curled tightly. My vision flashed brilliant white.
Heaven was opening up.
* * *
I’m so troubled.
I sat turned entirely toward the car window, watching the scenery flash rapidly past. No, the truth was that nothing was entering my eyes. I was simply avoiding Ugeum. Because I couldn’t bear to look at Ugeum driving beside me.
Wondering what could possibly be so great, Ugeum was humming a tune. He had looked in high spirits since morning.
I, however, had my mood ruined by Ugeum’s morning greeting.
<Good morning, Jian-ah. Did you have sweet dreams?>
Thanks to that, last night’s dream came rushing back, filling me with shame.
I must be out of my mind. Having a dream like that.
This was all Ugeum’s fault. I felt utterly played.
Why did he have to emphasize the two-day, one-night trip with such loaded meaning, making a person have weird dreams?
There was never any possibility of that kind of thing happening in the first place. I was the only one conscious of this trip.
“Ssaem.”
Ondam, sitting in the back seat, suddenly poked her face forward.
That was right. Ondam was with us. I had thought it was just going to be the two of us. You have no idea how flustered I was this morning seeing Ondam come out all excited to join us. I hadn’t known. That Ugeum had asked Ondam to come along too.
Of course, with Ondam coming along, safety was guaranteed. Both my life and my chastity. He wouldn’t try anything with me in front of Ondam. That was a relief, but… I didn’t know. It was right to feel relieved, so why was my temper so twisted?
“Do you have any motion sickness medicine?”
Ondam asked with a pale face.
Sighing, I pulled the motion sickness medicine from my bag and handed it to her.
“I knew you’d get carsick. That’s why I told you not to read in the car.”
“I was only going to skim through it. I didn’t know it would be this interesting.”
Ondam made an excuse with an embarrassed look. The book Ondam had been reading without even realizing she was getting carsick was none other than Red Night.
What’s more, the person who had recommended Red Night to this kid was Ugeum. And the reason for his recommendation had been absurd.
<The serial killer in this book has the exact same name as me.>
Was the name the only thing that was identical? Just what kind of twisted mentality was that? I had no idea what went on in Ugeum’s head. Even though I was the one who created him.
It was the same right now. Ugeum had suggested going on a trip, but he hadn’t even told us the destination.
<Oppa, why aren’t you setting the navigation?>
To Ondam’s question, this had been his answer:
<Because it’s somewhere I’ve been before. Don’t worry. I know the way.>
It was dumbfounding. Somewhere he’d been before? Where could you possibly have been? It had barely been two weeks since you popped out into reality.
Ugeum drove so skillfully, as if it truly were a road he had traveled before, leaving me bewildered. I couldn’t make heads or tails of it, but since there was no way to find out either, I soon buried my doubts.
“Ssaem, Oppa. Thank you for bringing me along. This is the first time in my life going on a trip for fun like this. Excluding school trips, that is.”
Even with a pale face from motion sickness, Ondam smiled.
Had she never even been on a family vacation? A feeling of pity welled up inside me.
Come to think of it, going on a fun trip like this was a first for me, too. Though I had accompanied Jeong-an on a few research trips, I was too busy working to enjoy myself. Every time, Jeong-an’s complaints had reached the sky.
A family vacation was a concept completely alien to me anyway…. In our house, there were only couples’ trips.
Back in elementary school, my parents’ couples’ trips were what terrified me the most. Because it meant starving for days on end.
From middle school onward, I became able to cook something for myself, so it was fine, but still.
It had taken quite a long time for the meaning of a couples’ trip to shift from starvation to liberation.
“You two must have wanted to come just by yourselves, though.”
Ondam added teasingly.
For a girl who built a wall with her bangs at school and spent her time alone without any friends to show such a cheerful side was all thanks to Ugeum’s influence.
It felt strange, as if a sociability meant for killing people had somehow saved Ondam.
“You know it well.”
Ugeum chimed in shamelessly.
Without realizing it, I smacked Ugeum’s arm. Then I startled at my own action. Look at me.
Ugeum looked over at me with a playful smile.
“You’re finally looking at me.”
“Look ahead.”
I snapped deliberately. Ugeum’s head turned back toward the front. The smug smirk curling his lips was infuriating.
Right, staying self-conscious about it is only my loss anyway. I decided to forget that absurd dream.
We stopped by a rest stop to eat hot dogs and baked potatoes, listened to upbeat music, and chatted about meaningless things as we sped down the highway.
Eventually, the car exited the highway and climbed up a winding mountain road. Yet looking at the scenery rushing past the car window, an inexplicable sense of déjà vu took hold. The road was strangely familiar. A feeling as if I had been here before.
And then, far in the distance, a mountain cabin began to come into view.
