Chapter 10

The Duke's Wolves led him to a safe house not far from the Imperial Palace.
The citizens of the Empire were busy enjoying the New Year's festival, which made the area around the safe house eerily quiet.
Creak.
The empty house was clean and desolate.
"This is Donovan. He's definitely the one who went to see the young lady."
Lennox Carlisle looked down at the man kneeling on the floor and felt a strange sense of disappointment.
He was just an ordinary-looking young man, the kind you could see anywhere.
Feeling somewhat disheartened, he ordered, "Untie him."
As soon as the gag was removed, the man named Donovan cried out in fear, "I... Did you bring me here because of my debt?"
A brief look of bewilderment crossed both Lennox's and the knight's faces.
Lennox knelt down to meet Donovan's gaze.
Then, he got straight to the point. "Do you know Juliet Monad?"
"Mo, Monad... Are you talking about the Count's daughter?"
"What is your relationship with Juliet?"
"That's... No, wait. Re, relationship! I've never even met her!"
Donovan desperately denied it.
He seemed to have realized what kind of situation he was in.
"Then why did you go to see Juliet?"
"Well, that's... Patient information is very sensitive."
Donovan glanced at Lennox with a troubled expression.
However, as soon as the knight behind him placed his hand on the hilt of his sword, Donovan immediately shouted, "It's because of my mother!"
A terrified Donovan quickly revealed everything he knew.
Donovan was rambling, but Lennox and the Duke's knights were able to piece together what he was saying.
"What did Juliet order?"
"...Silphium."
"Silphium?"
"It's, it's not a harmful medicine!
As you know, many other noble ladies take Silphium."
Lennox frowned.
He knew the medicine well.
Silphium was a precious herb that grew in the southern part of the Empire. When the root of Silphium was lightly brewed into tea, it had a contraceptive effect.
Aside from the disadvantage of being expensive, it had no side effects and a pleasant fragrance, so it was widely used as a contraceptive.
Only then did Lennox understand why this man had been lingering in front of the Monad County.
Even though they were a fallen noble family, the Monad County was a family with a long history.
Moreover, Juliet Monad was an unmarried young lady of marriageable age.
What if something happened because Juliet had taken the wrong medicine?
"...She ordered it. My mother sent the medicine as it was, and that was the last record of Miss Monad's prescription."
However, Donovan was still hesitant, glancing at him.
If that was all Juliet had ordered, there was no reason for him to be so wary.
Sensing something ominous, Lennox immediately asked, "What is Mistletoe used for?"
"Mistletoe is not a problem at all. Rather, it is a good medicine that prevents miscarriage and protects the baby in the womb. The problem is that the young lady ordered it together with the Silphium flower."
...A baby?
"The effects of the Silphium flower are completely different from those of the root. Silphium, which is usually taken as a contraceptive, is the root part, but the Silphium flower is much more toxic than the root part and is used to terminate a pregnancy."
The air in the room suddenly froze.
However, Donovan's faithful explanation did not end there.
"If you take them separately, there is no problem, but if you take Silphium and Mistletoe together, there is a risk of miscarriage. So, if you are sure that you have a baby, I was going to tell you not to use the medicine and get a separate examination..."
Donovan's words were cut short.
Bang.
Before he could finish speaking, Lennox Carlisle kicked the door open and stormed out.
"Lord!"
The Duke's knights hurriedly chased after him.
However, Lennox did not wait for them and immediately mounted the black horse tied in the yard.
The city was empty because of the fireworks display that would be held at midnight.
Thanks to this, as Lennox Carlisle rode madly towards the Duke's residence, he could only think of one thing.
'Juliet.'
He had to explain.
He had to explain.
"Mistletoe is not a problem at all. Rather, it is a good medicine that prevents miscarriage and protects the baby in the womb."
"The Silphium flower is much more toxic than the root part and is used to terminate a pregnancy."
Contraceptive.
Silphium.
And Juliet.
When those ominous and confusing words were combined, a memory flashed through his mind at once.
The forgotten Juliet.
